Ой у лузі червона калина • Oh, the Red Viburnum in the Meadow

Ой у лузі червона калина (Oh, the Red Viburnum in the Meadow)

On February 24, 2022, Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, ordered the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine by the Russian armed forces. The war is a disaster for both countries.

In the news, we see the men and women of Ukraine fight bravely and well against the Russian invaders of their homeland. We see their fierce bravery, steadfast spirit, and obvious fighting ability.

With genuine respect and admiration, we see them fight with growing courage and confidence and success against the invading Russian armed forces in front of them.

Here we see young Ukrainian school children sing an ancient patriotic song with confidence and conviction in support of their parents and grandparents as they defend their homeland.

The men and women of the Ukrainian Armed Forces keep their word. They fulfill oaths they have taken. The world is watching as they protect their families and children.

They have promises to keep. They do not flinch.

In America, we say “God Bless America.” In Ukraine, they say “Слава Україні! (Slava Ukraini!) “Glory to Ukraine!” Героям слава! (Heroiam slava!) “Glory to the heroes!”

I say, “Blessings to you, people of Ukraine, and to everyone you love, and to everyone who loves you.” We are many.

April 12, 2022 – Ukrainian refugee Elizaveta sings together with 300 Lithuanians, who answered her call to gather in Vilnius and sing this Ukrainian folk song to draw attention to the ongoing war and struggles of Ukrainian people.

Eliza is a 21 year old Ukrainian singer. She had to flee her home country when Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014 and has been living and studying in Lithuania since 2015.

When Russia started the war on February 24th, 2022, her family’s home was destroyed by Russian occupants for the second time in their life. Eliza’s mother and brother stayed in Ukraine to defend their homeland.

Eliza is safe in Lithuania, sending the message for her family and for her country to stay strong.
