July 29, 2022 – Ukraine’s ‘shadow army’ are a network of agents and informers who operate behind Russian lines. They are working alongside Ukraine’s military, which is stepping up strikes on the city of Kherson, hinting at a new offensive to recapture the region.
October 20, 2022 – Ukraine’s southern Kherson region – Ukrainian troops are making progress and the Russians fear a fresh rout. Behind the frontline, another force is at work alongside the Ukrainian army: the partisans. These resistance fighters are able to strike behind enemy lines and provide valuable intelligence to Ukrainian forces. Our reporter Gwendoline Debono went to meet some of the members of this shadow army, who are relentlessly hunted down by Russian troops.
November 8, 2022 – Whenever occupiers have forcefully taken land from their neighbors or other countries, resistance has grown. Sometimes that resistance grows into an armed one and you see partisans taking to the battlefield in guerrilla style attacks against the invaders. Ukraine is no different. November 14, 2022 – In the Kharkiv region during the occupation, a whole Ukrainian partisan movement of resistance to the Russian occupiers was created. Local residents from Prudyanka rallied against the aggressor. They carried out reconnaissance, collected information on the placement and advancement of equipment and Russian troops, saved the people, who was terrorized by the invaders, and stormed an enemy checkpoint on a captured tank. February 24, 2023 – There is one aspect to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine that has gone overlooked and that is the impact that Ukrainian partisans have had. These guerilla warriors or insurgents depending on how you view them have been actively harassing and hampering Russian forces since the start of the invasion. So let’s look inside how these networks function, how effective their operations have been since the start of the war a year ago up to today, and how the Russian Armed Forces have chosen to retaliate against the Partisans.
February 24, 2023 – One year after the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, FRANCE 24 brings you a special 35-minute report, co-produced with Arte. Our reporter Gwendoline Debono went to meet resistants in the southern Kherson region, which was retaken from Russian forces last November. The clandestine actions of these ordinary citizens played a key role in the liberation of Kherson. Driven only by their conscience, these Ukrainian men and women managed to thwart the Kremlin’s plans to annex their region to Russia. Behind Russian lines, Gwendoline Debono was also able to gain access to a Ukrainian military unit responsible for conducting military operations in enemy territory.
