River Rats

August 30, 2018 – The US Navy’s heavily armed patrol boats and Huey Gunship helicopters operating in the Mekong River Delta risked Viet Cong ambush at every twist and turn of the muddy and mysterious waterways.

From the searching of suspect sampans to an all out firefight with the Viet Cong, the story of the US Navy’s Mobile Riverine Force is a perilous as any from the Vietnam War.

Viet Cong guerillas were infiltrating up the Mekong from the South China Sea on their way to Saigon and it was the duty of the PBRs, Seawolf Choppers and special SEAL Teams to counterattack in the Delta’s steaming swamps and marshes.
