December 22, 2022 – No fewer than 50 Russian T-90 tanks are reportedly fielded in one small sector in Svatove in eastern Ukraine, reports Forbes. Russian arms firm Uralvagonzavod’s T-90 tanks are considered to be the best tanks in Russia’s arsenal. Local media highlighted the presence of T-90s in Svatove and their pre-deployment training with Russia’s Central Military District. The Central Military district has often been designated as Russia’s so-called “special operation zone.”
Analysts believe that Russia’s concentration of its most modern tanks in Svatove is an integral part of the Kremlin’s new war strategy in Donbas. Svatove is next to the P66 highway that threads through the forest and fields to Severodonetsk, one of the bigger cities in Donbas. The Ukrainians held Severodonetsk until a combined Russian-separatist force captured the city in July. Liberating Severodonetsk is a top priority for the Ukrainian armed forces while Putin is doing his best to hang on to the territory.
