To Jackie, with Love
Music for you, sung in Japanese by Ayaka Hirahara

Ayaka Hirahara (平原 綾香) is a Japanese singer and songwriter of popular and classical music.

Her first single, “Jupiter”, was released in Japan in December 2003, and went on to be one of the biggest selling singles of 2004. The melody of the song is based on the “Jupiter” movement in The Planets Suite by Gustav Holst.

The melody is the main theme from “Jupiter” (1914) from The Planets, an orchestral suite of seven movements, each named after a planet and its corresponding mythological character, composed by English composer Gustav Holst between 1914 and 1916.

Jackie, my Japanese is rather minimal, but I trust this rather cumbersom, less than elegant translation is reasonably close to the original Japanese meaning.

Every day I listen to my heart
At times when I can’t see.
When my faith is nowhere to be found
I trust the voice in me.

So, when you’re lost, wishing for an angel,
Or a hand to pull you through,
When the world is on your shoulders,
Just trust the voice in you.

Every day I listen to my heart
When I’m too numb to feel.
When my strength is nowhere to be found
I trust the voice in me.

Sometimes life moves in mysterious ways
And you don’t know when it will end.
It’s a fight, no one can take your place,
And nothing’s like you planned.

But when you call, looking for an answer
To justify what you have to do,
Baby, don’t look any further,
Just trust the voice in you.

Every day I listen to my heart
When I’m just too blind to see.
When my faith is nowhere to be found,
I trust the voice in me.

When the world is on your shoulders,
And you’re looking for your way,
We fight our own private war.

You know there are times when doubt fills your head,
When all good advice will only get you misled,
I trust the voice in me.
